Lancer ~09 2L Diesel reliability?
Discussion
Morning all
Thinking of getting a 09 to 11 2L diesel.
I believe they use the VW (VW I4-T) engine. Kicking out 140bhp, i believe it can get upto 170bhp with moderate remap and ~190 for stage 1 remap.
Power seems good, just wondering about reliability of the car in general? She currently has a Colt and has been good bar the gearbox getting rather sticky now, so thinking rather than spending £400 on getting that done, then maybe scrap it and just in £3k and get a 'new' car.
I know the lancer is 2 best car in the world on the reliability index, but wondering if that is relating to the simpler petrol versions?
I had a SEAT Ibiza 1.9 TDI FR and that was not too bad. Engine was pretty powerful. Yes it's a diesil, but it's main purpose is for my wife, so low repair bills / running costs is ideal.
est 6k mileage at start, then going upto 10k a year, potentially 12k in a years time or so.
Thoughts welcome.

AFAIK reliability is good (worked in a Mitsi dealership for 7 years). Have you driven a Lancer diesel? I would strongly recommend you do as although they are VW-sourced they are unrefined and don’t feel as swift as similarly powered units found in VWs own product.
OK great to hear!By unrefined do you mean more raw / noisy / shaky?
RE power delivery, does the power come through less intense? If found the power band of the seat to be too intense and almost sickening. Would you say the lancer is more linear / spread out? If so I'm all up for that!
Yes, just noisy compared to similar engines of the time although they are not too bad.
To drive they are OK, you have probably hit the nail on the head in that whereas with in a VW Golf TDi you would get a nice slug of power, it never really arrives with the Lancer although it sounds like this may be what you are wanting. They don’t feel gutless though.

I have seen some companies (celtic tuning) remap to make power slightly higher and more linear. This could be an interesting combo.
