Mitsubishi GTO HELP

Been looking into getting a GTO. Non turbo manual for under £3000, and there are some good examples around. But noticed the auto is half the price, I've heard the auto has problems so is it that difficult to convert it to a manual or does it work out more expensive in the long run. Any help is much appreciated thanks.
ALL non turbo manuals are 5 speeds and the non turbo manual boxes are decent, it’s the turbo boxes that crunch and shear input shafts if abused on launches... the auto are crap. Slow, poor gear changes and expensive to fix. Converting is way too much grief and that’s coming from a guy who has converted an NA to a 500hp 11 sec street car and an auto to a twin turbo with paddle shifts. Anything can be done... it’s just whether it’s worth it.

Yes, mainly because the only way you will get ALL the conversion bits would be to buy an manual donor car. They have picked up in price and gone are the days I could buy one for a couple of hundred quid. 3 grand for a decent na manual is not bad going at all. Links to any you thinking of and I can help out. I know probably most of the GTO’s on the road and have owned 30+ over the years.
Listen to Fastbikes (hi fella, hope you're well)... he helped me out with my GTO TT when I had gearbox issues, he knows of what he speaks. Unfortunately my car suffered catastrophic turbo and brake failure about 6 months after that, spent 5 years on my drive going green, was briefly resurected by my mechanically savvy uncle as a run around which he then had to sell as his daily drive went pop. If anyone has seen or owns my old number 1 slag (NUI 5146) give it a wave.
