Hi all. Looking at a used GT86. Haven't gone too in-depth yet but may seriously start looking in the new year. I'm lucky enough to instruct in the rally spec'd ones at Brands Hatch occasionally and fancy a road going version.

However, two queries I have with used models 2012-17. One is none of them I've looked at have DAB, even the latter models. Is it an option that few people go for? Or just not an option at all?

And two, different cars seem to have a difference in CO2 emissions. Some at 164g/km and others are 181g/km regardless, it seems, whether they are auto or manual. They all appear to have the same engines, and it doesn't appear to be an age-related factor either. How come?

The Auto gearing was very long legged from what I saw when I looked into it so I imagine this affects it

But some autos of the same age have different levels of emissions, and the same goes for manuals. Doesn't make sense to me.

From what I understand all pre WLTP (late 2018 on) Manuals are ~180g/km and all pre WLTP autos are ~164g/km so are one tax band lower (pre 2017) The auto gearing is only a bit longer from 1st-3rd, then 4th in the Auto is the same as 5th in the Manual, and both 5th and 6th in the Auto are longer than 6th in the manual which seems leggy given it has a smallish revvy engine.

I have a manual 2015 Giallo Edition (only 86 made, have full leather, side stripes and a rather bright shade of yellow paint which I am quite a fan of). The lack of DAB is a minor annoyance, but otherwise it is very well equipped. I would also say that the manual ratios are well suited to the engine, and cruising at 70 in 6th is at just under 3k rpm which is reasonably refined (road noise is the biggest culprit on bad surfaces). I get 31-32mpg regularly in mixed driving, and that includes some playing around (lots of fun in the wet!). On a run you'll see low to mid 40's fairly easily.

Let me know if you want to know any more about them, I love mine, and there's quite a few other owners on PH who should be able to help you too.

Thank you very much. I really appreciate you taking the time to give an in-depth response and opinion on GT86 ownership. I'm genuinely excited at the prospect of owning one as a daily and may well pick your brains when the time comes. In the meantime, I think I should test drive both an auto and a manual.
