Import MX5 Prices
Discussion
Hi all,
I'm looking into buying an MX5, and since I'm not afraid of getting my hands dirty and I have experience of SVA, I was wondering about doing some leg work myself by buying "direct off the ship" as it were. Has anyone taken this route? Roughly how much cheaper are pre-SVA/registration imports than post-SVA/registration cars? Other than SVA and registration is there anything else I need to know about. What are the potential pitfalls, etc.
Any help/advice gratefully received.

You can save a fair bit of cash doing it this way, especially if you have experience with getting cars through the SVA, speak to a couple of people who have done it, Julian Alison at MR2 direct imports and Miguel of Newera might be worth emailing to ask for some advice, they will probably try to convince you to buy a car from them, but may well offer up some useful tips.
Although with early MX-5's being so cheap anyway you do have to ask yourself if it is worth it, maybe if you were looking at importing something newer like a 350Z then the savings might outweigh the hassle, but for an MX-5 you're probably best off buying a car where all the work has been done.
