All,

anyone had issues with the gearbox?
Wife broke down this morning, 2010, ~30k miles.
She can't select 1st gear, only 3rd - 5th gears...

I don't think it's uncommon to have gearbox issues with them. Mine is often difficult to get into reverse - lifting the clutch foot a little seems to work.

Will get it booked into Suzuki. Hope it's not a big bill.
Surprised this has happened to a 30k car. Maybe too many short journeys?

Quite common to find first difficult when cold. Some solve it by using thinner gearbox oil. Hopefully just an issue with the linkage which should be fairly cheap compared to something in the box itself.

AA checked the car. The gear select cables had come off.
Suzuki dealer is looking into it.

Anyone know how much this would cost to repair / replace?

Ouch! That's a crazy price. It wouldn't surprise me if a good independent could do it for a lot less.
It also wouldn't surprise me if the original cables could be reconnected, unless of course one has snapped.

Fair enough. I've not had a lot of luck with "good" independents so I'll go with this quote as they've done good work for me before.
