Hi all, if i drive my Evo 8 MR fq340 'properly' then as i slowdown to stop the idle is 3k and thats no good! I bought a new idle control valve off ebay but with that fitted it idled at 2000. Also no good! Its doesnt happen all the time and ive read about an idle reset with a mitsubishi dealer tool?

Has the battery been disconnected recently? If so, the car will take a while to re-learn the idle speed. If it's not that, and I remember correctly, then, as you say, if it is the ISC, it'll need to have a re-set. An Indy should be able to do that quite cheaply.

I had this issue with an earlier Evo, and was sure it was being electronically governed. Turned out it was the throttle butterfly sticking, due to the butterfly being made from brass and the TB is alloy. Try manually turning the throttle back to the throttle stop as far as it will go and see if the Revs drop down. I ended up using fine sandpaper inside the TB just before it hits the throttle stop.

Sounds like something else may be amiss, however, you don't need Mitsubishi software to reset idle.

First of all, is your battery in tip top nick? This time of year starts showing up dodgy batteries, as folk start using heaters and lights in the morning, adding load. Make sure it is.

Ensure everything off i.e. lights, air con etc.

Disconnect your battery, for at least 20 mins, an hour is better

Reconnect battery, wait 20 mins.

Turn on your ignition, wait another 20 mins.

The start turning on lights, wait 20 mins, heater/aircon wait 20 mins, and so on.

Then go for a right good drive.

This might not be necessary; after the drive I leave it idling, lights, air con/heater etc on, then switch off each one by one, until it's only engine idling for ~20mins.

Then switch off, ECU should have "learned" idle again.

What you've described sounds like something else, and there are a few possibilities. That said I'd definitely try the relearning idle.

Evo 8 (in particular) seem susceptible to electrical gremlins, particularly when a battery is failing. On start up the ECU/software looks for certain voltages, a bad battery can cause all sorts of "quirks".

As an example I thought I was looking at an AYC rebuild earlier this year, a new battery later and it was fine.
