Hi All - just reading the topic about the £5k skyline and wondering if there is something odd going on with the market.

Looks like Ebay is flodded with £3k-£6k mid nineties GTS-T's - could have sworn when I was looking a few month back there was very little for less than £7k....

I've had my 200sx up on Ebay at a start price of £2995 and not even had a sniff...

Do you think that SX values could be suffering because of a soft buying market for Import Skylines?

Thought this time of year was OK for selling?

any opinons?

not trying to plug my sale, just interested in what you guys think - but if anyone is after a low mileage 200sx - its in the classifieds here too

Definately a good time to buy,£6k will get you almost anything.
E-bay bargains really do seem to be doing for us poor suckers that bought at the 'top' of the market.

the import market crashed just before Christmas

that's my fault. I have a habit of reducing the prices of cars i buy. well, i'm convinced of it. Happened with my TVR... bought it for £25k from dealer. 6 months later average price of similar spec Chimaera was going for £20k.

Then I bought an import just before Christmas...

Looking to buy a Maserati 3200GT or perhaps a 993 Turbo 4... the forums have been warned but nobody's offered to bribe me not to ruin the resale values...

Please god dont buy a GT4 for a while!!!

The prices are stupidly low as they are, let alone with your curse dropping them further.

I have a similar problem though. When I sold my Mini, prices were low, but I see ones now with double the mileage mine had going for £2k more than I got for mine. Then, my MR2, 59000 miles, sold for £1940, now fetching £2500 with 96000 miles!!!

So as soon as I sell my GT4, I can almost gaurantee prices will rise.
Actually, I may put that in my advert

That isn't a bad curse. Just buy another (cheaper) GT4 now, then sell the cheap one. The prices will rise, so you can sell the decent one. Job done.

Seems to me the way to do it is...
Think of an expensive car that you want, talk ShadowNinja into buying one.
Automatic price drop swoop in for the kill
& Bob's your uncle.

How do you feel about z350's SN?.....?

Supra's most noticeably are scarily cheap now... seems it's pretty easy to pick up a Twin-Turbo Manual Hardtop for under £10k now.. sorely tempting!!

Tuttle...

The price drop is probably due to the stricter rules re import cars... can't remember the details tho.

Yeah, it appears that everyone and their mother is importing a japanese car. I think the fad for writing books on the internet has passed.

Surely this would have the opposite effect? Supply and demand - if it's harder to import cars then cars already here are more in demand? I know that residuals of the high end Skylines are still rock solid for this reason. It's possible to import one but it costs a fortune.

True, but it could be that fear of the unknown will put off the potential buyer, so sellers have to reduce their prices to attract buyers back.

I *think* residules of post 98 Supras have gone up now as you can't import them anymore (same as the R34 GTR, RX7...) They just cannot meet the ESVA.

Someone on the GTR forum also mentioned that most of the good pre 97 cars are already here, what's coming over now is mostly tripe, and in large numbers too.

When I bought my MRT, there were only 2 in the auto trader paper, and about 15 on the website.

Go have a look at the amount on there now!

This is definately the case with a lot of the 'new' importers of FDs from waht I can see. The good guys (like newera, linney and rotart imports) are still bringing in quality at a quality price but others are selling cars for 6-7k and some aren't lasting from the docks to the SVA!

There's a few of the imports I've seen who have a car inbound, next month it's here and had a rebuild as they won't shift one with a dodgy engine. There are other companies who just seem to see as is and buyer beware.

Problem with cheap ansties is it makes decent cars at a good price seem overpriced. Not godd but such is life.

Rebuilt FDs seem to be from 7.5k and up now which is scary.

this thing about late supras and esva, could you not, in theory, take off the badges and stick on a "garage-special-motorsport" badge, and register it on a Q-plate as a kitcar?? then it would only have to go thorugh the regular SVA...

just a thought..

but at least it will put off the less scrupulous dealers, having been stung with rebuild fees and the hassle of having £7k of stock sitting in a garage, so in the long term it may be fine.

It depends how desperate you are to sell, I guess. If you have a good example of that model, then hold firm. Let the buyer see some shitboxes and realise that what ever you ask is the price they have to pay. I have done that and it worked. Only came down about 5%, so I was happy.
