I had a go in a colleagues a while a go. Seemed quite quick but didn't feel much fun - even compared to my Astra at the time. It was only a couple of laps of Weybridge so not a real test.

I've never driven one but I have just bought a broken twin turbo version and it looks fantastic. They are easily tuned to 350bhp so I can't imagine it not being fun. It's a heavy car though so perhaps a normally aspirated will be a bit slow.

Go well. Wasn't too impressed with the way it handled (I might have driven a bad one).

Everyone I've spoken to who has one seems to have problems (big problems) with them sooner or later.

No, I think you drove a normal one.

The GTO made it in to Richard Porters' "Book of Crap Cars," alongside other class acts such as the aircooled VW Beetle and the Austin Allegro.

The text in the book said that whilst the car looked sporty, it was anything but.

Apparently, however, the stereo is excellent.

Hmmmmmmmmmm...

it was good in a straight line but just didn't really raise much of a smile round corners for me

I do like the shape, but hear (well, read in various car mags) that it's not a driving enthusiast's car (apparently like driving a computer game) and if things go wrong it can be very expensive to fix.

I'll let you know what I think when I've sorted the car (will be some time) but I'm not too bothered anyway as my main reason for buying is to commute on snowy days (4WD).

Erm. It's going to be chuffing useless in the snow mate. Big fat performance tyres just don't work in the snow, even when they have 4wd. A oil burning fiesta on narrow cheap tyres is probably a lot more useful.

I expect it will be good in the snow. My Scoob was excellent in the snow, better than any Fiesta, and it had wide tyres. Anyway, I'm NOT driving a Fiesta This is Jap-Chat !
