As per the title really, I've recently changed jobs, and whilst my air miles will be going up, my UK mileage will be considerably less.

I've fancied a barge for a while, and some googling reckons they are excellent value for money/versus equipment and reliability.

I was hoping for some real world examples of what they are like to live with for the occasional long journey (i.e. Weekends away) and the odd weekday run to one of our offices not served by a convenient train station.

Budget is £5-8k - looking to buy either in November, or the New Year.

All comments/suggestions gratefully received.

I'm becoming a broken record on threads like these, but I have professional experience of Lexus. I don't think there's anything in the price range I'd rather have if I were in the market for such a vehicle. Lexus and Toyota models from that era were extraordinarily reliable, and you'd be unlucky to have a significant problem.

I ran one of these for five years until an accident wrote it off. Beautifully well built, no rattles or strange noises. Very smooth engine, no toque but once moving very swift. No worries re electrics, no bulb failures, but I did find the seats not over supportive and often wondered where the wheels were as you are so enveloped from the outside world and what is going on outside. Epically quiet car but not a great handling car if in a rush. Ventilation was amazing, cooled seats perfect, hifi was good and no worries re rust or corrosion. Wheels a weak spot and heavy re tyres and geometry. A good purchase but do check everything works before buying. Boot isn't the biggest but big enough, due to fuel tank location.
