Hi,

Does anyone have any experience with importing a vehicle through www.japaneseusedcars.com

Obviously worried about going bust and loosing my money but assume no way to protect that.

Thank you in advance

I used them to import my Subaru Legacy last year. Never had a single issue with them (other than I bought just before golden week so everything in Japan stopped for a week or so)

Stages
- I contacted them via their site as a friend had used them and did the car estimate.
- They came back to me with a car from a dealership that met my requirements and sent over pictures
- I transferred funds via transferwise to minimise charges/fees
- They handledeverything else and loaded it onto the ship
- about a week or two before the ship arrived in Newcastle I was contacted by Nissin (Customs in Newcastle) and asked to fill out some forms and make a payment
- Car collected and taken to MOT station
- Insurance set up with Admiral, you need to get it registered within a month or so in order to continue the policy as they can only do it on the VIN for so long
- Filled in form (V62 I think) and attached MOT plus bank details for payments etc
- Received V5 with Reg details
- Reg plate made up and away I went

I plan to import more cars in the future with them, a Nissan Figaro for the missus, Eunos roadsters (Mx5) and a Skyline for myself. For a general idea of additional costs is around 30% extra than price listed.

Overall I was pleased with the service and would heavily recommend them. However do remember they're based in Japan so won't get such a speedy response to emails if it's out of hours for them or is a holiday whichwe may not celebrate here.

I recommend http://www.pacificcoastjdm.com/

Ive used most of the agents over the years, these guys are the best, most honest and have a youtube channel thats always active. You can at least watch over loads of walkarounds and they do quite a lot of information videos too to warn of issues etc. Log in and look at previous prices to get a solid expectation of what to pay.

No issues with japanusedcars, I have used them, but Id highly recommend these guys

The man above me speaks the truth too

No worries

If you need any info there were other threads on it here some months ago, we can help with all in costs etc, for info in general you are looking at:

1. Cost of the car
2. Shipping
3. Agents fees
4. Import duty/tax
5. Transport costs to and from the docks at both ends (depending on ports & auctions)
6. Mileage check
7. Extra shipping insurances
8. Conversion and MOT fees
9. Custom Agent (you can do it yourself)
10. Registration and Tax
11. VAT Adjustments for HMRC (this caught me out this time)

Anyways, its a great experience, I love doing it. Any questions just ask, but do check out Pacific Coasts YouTube channel

Cheers!

What's Vat adjustments?

Ideally I wanted to go the auctions myself as I'm there in a fee months but don't believe I'm allowed

No hassles

The VAT adjustment has always been there but I totally forgot last time around in my calcs.

Its £90 per ton plus £80 and is to cover "local HMRC costs" which I assume is the team/people at the docks that check everything, damn them
