After some clarification here.

When did Lexus fit DPFs to the IS220d? I have read in one place that it was from 2008 onwards. But then read a Lexus Owners Forum post where the poster clearly states all IS220d have DPFs from the start, with 5th injector for regeneration.

Reason I ask is my parents, who own the car, have been down to see me this weekend and they had an issue coming down where a message "check VSC' came up and the car de-rated itself. I cleared the fault with my OBD tool. I had assumed that "check VSC" meant check stability control and that a likely culprit was a borked wheel speed sensor. But the code-read came back as DPF threshold level critical or some such.

I was under the impression that the 2006 models didn't have a DPF and so cleared it. After-all my code reader is a cheapie £7 job from eBay.

On the way home its taken them about 4 hours (instead of 2) as they've had to keep pulling over to re-start the car after it repeatedly flashed the warning "check VSC" and de-rated.

On the forum post above, the poster mentions that there is no reference to a DPF in the manual and that in the case of a DPF warning there is no specific message or warning light. You get the check engine light and "check VSC" message in the cluster and that is all. How fking daft is that?

Given the symptoms I am inclined to think it is indeed a DPF problem. Strange because they have had the car nearly 10 years and have put all of 40,000 miles on it. You'd think the DPF would have been fooked well before now with that level of activity!
