Hi all..

This is my first time on a forum so here it goes..

I have recently bought a mk1 1989 shogun (barn find) with 80k on the clock. I knew it needed work so I’ve sent to the local garage to have the engine looked at and get it through a MOT.
I have left it with the garage for a week now and rang them to see how the progress is going and the mechanic said he’s not touching it as it needs so much work doing as it’s leaking oil when upto temperature..
So this got me thinking instead of doing a overhaul of the engine and gearbox, why not do a engine swap with a little more umph..

I have been on the internet and YouTube and came across a Lexus 1UZ-FE engine swap on YouTube and set my mind doing that. I have already seen a LS400 donor car and i have been in touch with a bloke who does ford engine swaps but hasn’t done any jap conversions. He has asked me for any information on how to do it but I can’t find anything (Cad drawings, step by step etc) on the old web to guide him.. is the anyone on the forum that can help or know of a company that does this sort of engine conversion? I’m based in the north west (Lancashire).

Thanks for your help

There are a few Facebook groups based around the 1UZ engine conversions - paying someone to carry out a complete conversion is NOT cheap.

EG Dynotorque who do LS engine swaps charge around £10k PLUS the engine / box

Hi,

I've done a few Lexus engine swaps myself into Cobras and the like but never into a 4 wheel drive. I probably have the necessary wiring diagrams you need or can point you in the direction to get all the electronic information sorted but your problem I would think would be the transmission.

You could keep it two wheel drive, use the Lexus engine and transmission and sort out a new propshaft arrangement but if you want to keep the 4 wheel drive I believe the Lexus auto tranny will only mate up with Toyota transfer boxes. There are however many hundreds of Lexus V8's transplanted into 4x4's of almost every description in Australia and the USA so someone somewhere has already done yours.

Take a look at www.lextreme.com and do a search on that forum or put out a post, they have a dedicated 4x4 forum section, and you will probably find all the information you will need.

Cheers,

Tony
