I saw a honda accord parked up today and noticed some "Euro R" badging.

I just assumed it was some barry car with barry badges but a quick google tells me there is such a car.

I always liked the previous gen ATR and this Euro R sounds like a nice car.

What are the thoughts on these? Future classic or an also ran?

No info on the car, but I remember this in Gran Turismo (1). I just figured it was the Jap version of the UK ATR, no idea though and I wouldn’t accept my judgement anyway as back then, as a kid, I thought the Mitsubishi FTO was the fastest thing going biggrin. I’m off on one now, but I can also tell you that 1000hp 3000GT doesn’t handle very well either.

Anyway...

Strangely, called a Euro R but JDM only!

It has the DC5 Integra K20A engine, gearbox and LSD. Debadged, a bit of a Q Car and imagine it's a pretty good drive.

'Classic' though? Doubt it; curious oddity perhaps. There are too many good Civic and Integra variants to choose ahead of it.

JDM only car. The earlier CL1 got a 2.2 H22 engine, similar to that of the UKDM ATR.

The later CL7 got the same engine and gearbox as the DC5 IIRC.

Both pretty cool cars, think of them of JDM versions of our cars and you’re not far wrong, although we didn’t get a ‘fast’ 7th gen accord except the 2.4 Type S which doesn’t really compare.

Pretty safe bet as far as money goes, as with all JDM Hondas

Here is a fun comparison between the JDM CL7 Euro-R, DC5 and EP3 Type-R.

Haha great video to watch.

So it seems the Euro R is a capable machine overall blunted by the 200kg over the Civic and Integra.

A few mods seem to overcome some of the weight disadvantage.

Just a quickie for the beards - Are they likely to become sought after?I might hnt one down with the hope it may gain money that will offset any running costs etc

I don’t think you’d lose anything much if you bought one.

As long as it’s a decent condition car, minimal (sympathetic) mods and it’s kept nice you’ll always find a buyer. They’re getting rarer and rarer, look at the prices of good (and I mean nice ones) UKDM ATR’s and how they’ve hardened up Over the last few years!

Thanks, your opinion is appreciated as i know you are in the trade.

What would you say is a decent price for one thats say sub 70k (KM) for example?

I noticed a white on on Autotrader for £7500 at a dealership...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

Theres also a blue highish miles one at £6995

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

Are they fair prices or a bit punchy?

Many thanks

The white would be my choice. We didn’t get White in the UK, whereas the blue is the same colour you get on the standard Accord range (I think) which would make it more desirable (IMO)

I’m not too up on the pricing tbh, but £7500 for a 220bhp sports saloon with that kind of exclusivity seems like a good deal!

They are still quite expensive in Japan so prices will be kept high. The risk would be exchange rate changes to the future value of any car here really.

Championship White Hondas will always be more desirable / hold their value better than their other coloured counterparts. Check out the pricing of Integras as a guide. The Euro R is a great car, if it's good enough for Maz at HondR to use as a base car, it's good enough for me smile

Take care, 2 Accord Euro Rs that I know of in the UK are pearl white not championship white. Still a very nice colour but doesn't have quite the scene tax.

I've driven them on a few occasions and they are superb, the handling/balance/wheelbase makes them incredibly stable compared with EP3/DC5s , the LSD helps gets every bit of power down, the suspension setup helps with turn in, the weight over the rear helps keep it far more planted.

The gearing is a little different to DC5 Integras certainly 4th-6th are longer, I believe the EuroR has the same ratios as a UKDM EP3 but the rest of the engine setup is close to DC5- the cams, intake an exhaust are the same.

One thing to consider if you are intending on modifying them is I don't believe the K-Pro do an ECU that fits the Euro R as they have slightly different electrics to JDM Civic/Integras with the K20A in them. A mate of mine has a ECU upgrade from IceTronix which combined with an upgraded Exhaust and airbox should net >240hp - it certainly feels like it pulls much harder at top end than my UKDM EP3

Value wise, I know of one that maybe coming up for sale at around £9-10k as it's already in the UK and far better than the 2 or 3 standard ones that are priced around £7-8k which i think is fair money for standard ones.

I was looking at a couple of examples in Japan last week that range from £5500-6500 plus shipping/tax. even the worst examples are still fetching £5k as the running gear is valuable! Two in the UK sold for £8k that were both imported by Torque GT at the same time 2 years ago so id consider values are fairly stable right now. Perhaps they may increase as more JDM EP3/DC5s start going >£10k

Here is a little action shot of my mates one at Castle Combe last weekend, running on Evo wheels with 225/45 Yokohama AD08R

just passing the Elise on entry

and pulling away on the next lap.

Thanks again for the info.

Google throws up very little info for a newbie to the model.

The one I saw parked up was in a sort of metallic gunmetal grey and looked rather nice. In my eyes far nicer than the white

Is the gunmetal a more common colour then?

Hi OP,

I have a CL7 Accord Euro R which I imported through Torque GT about 18 months ago. Any questions feel free to ask!

I'll be putting together a Reader's Car thread on it at some point in the next couple of weeks, keep meaning to do it but not found the time yet!

For now heres a little teaser…

All the best,

Sam.

Hi Sam

Car looks lovely mate - well done.

Thanks for the offer of help. Ive got a couple of questions following some research.

Ive found out the EuroR came in two flavours - the CL1 (5 speed manual) 1998-2001 and the later CL7 (6 speed manual)

Ive been put in touch with someone who has a 2001 CL1 with 50k miles in a metallic grey. Very tidy car indeed. Just the one owner since import, recent service inc timing belt, water pump and a few other service items.

Questions

- Is the later CL7 more desirable and more of a premium?
- Is the CL1 worth buying or best holding out for a later one?
- What sort of price would you say the one I'm looking at it worth?

Many thanks

Personally I’d say the CL1 is a bit ‘old school’ now. The H22A is a fantastic engine but a bit unrefined compared to the newer K20.

Both the CL1 and CL7 have their fans (compare them to the DC2 and DC5 integras) but the CL1 doesn’t have the ‘kudos’ of the DC2 to make it a cult car and keep the values up the same way.

How much is he asking for the car?

Thanks for the valued info.

I get what you are saying; I wonder if 'old school' could become a good thing in years to come?

He was talking around 7k. What say you?

Seems a lot, but they are super rare. You’re taking a bit of a punt anyway tbh. I wouldn’t say you’ll ever make a fortune on it.

I’d say go and drive it and see what you think of it. It is a nigh on 20 year old Honda now and you may not even like it. The VTEC crossover on an H22 is fantastic though and would make anyone want to buy one hehe

In all honesty I'm not too fussed about driving it too often; just the odd blat.

I've been buying a few cheaper cars of late that have potential to turn a profit on 5-10 years time.

I bought a 30k miles 1 owner 2005 clio trophy early this year and hopefully a Euro R will allow the occasional drive, fun and most importantly earn it's keep.

From what you have said though, it's unlikely or at least touch and go if it will appreciate much?
