Hi folks,
I'm after a few opinions if at all possible.....the subaru legacy outback...

Looking at hopefully a facelifted model, if I am right that is an S reg or above.

I currently have a BMW 540 which is a nice car but drinks like oliver reed. I understand the scooby still likes a drop of the stuff but hopefully better than the bmw around town.

Any reliability issues?
What do I look for when viewing one, are there any inherent problems?
Are they any good?

I was and still suppose am looking for an audi a6 avant, and sort of came across the subaru, was pretty impressed (from a picture) and it's a bit of an outsider, but must admit, does look impressive.

Thanks in advance.
Mike.

hi, have to admit i'm slightly biased here (have a 1990 subbie legacy wagon myself) but if you want something to get you and whatever else you want to carry somewhere at a reasonable pace on any roads, in any conditions up to a foot or more of snow, then buy one. great handling for a wagon (due to AWD, boxer motor = low c.o.g, nice balance etc).
not incredibly fast but ok for what they are. should get around 30mpg, maybe better if you have a light foot.

are you looking at a 2.5 or a 3.0H6 ? 3.0 has a fair bit more power(180kw) but also a bit thirstier and I've heard not quite so balanced (tad more understeery).

main subaru thing to watch for is cambelts, most need to be done every 80,000 km (altho newer may be different, not too sure).

probably not as nice/luxurious as an audi inside, but a lot cheaper and very nice to drive.

Thanks Ben, I was wondering about the mpg as the boxer engines are a little bit thirstier than 'normal' engines - but must be an improvement on the BMW.

Really stuck for choice ....
