Ruining my car with dirty loads of logs etc and dreadful salt ridden roads. My neighbour is selling his Avensis 1.8 VVti with just over 100k miles and the most of a year's MOT. The car has no dents or scratches and he has a new one arriving later in the week (well a 2017 demo). I have a spare insurance and he has given me first refusal at £500. Is there something i need to check with this car/engine. He says it can do 40 mpg and he just fancied a new model and got a great deal with no part exchange.

Check for blue smoke on acceleration. Apart from burning oil they are a solid enough

Checked for MOT advisory's? https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history

TBH at £500 if it runs and isn't a rust bucket you are probably onto a winner. The petrol is generally more reliable than the diesel in these from what I have seen in various forums over time.

There's a reason every taxi around here is that shape avensis. (Last one I was in had over 200k on the clock.)

I regret selling mine frown

Collected it last night and it's actually a very good car. Not exciting but smooth, comfortable and tight as a drum. For £500 I am delighted.
