Researching Japanese cars after passing my test at the ripe old age of 33 but could do with some pointers from those in the know to narrow down my search a little. Looking for a hatchback petrol with decentish sized boot. I've tried a couple of 1.4 petrol, 60 plate Honda Civics priced at £4.5k with mileage of 50k and liked the interior space, but found them a bit laggy on hills. Ideally wanting something around that age and price but could go up to £7k if that's going to get me something with a bit more oomph. Cheers

There's lots to choose from in your general requirements. Everybody makes a car that fits that niche, not just the Japanese. Which is good news really because you're spoilt for choice.

If it was my money and to fit my personal preferences I'd say Suzuki Swift or Toyota Yaris. Both are fairly good looking, generally good value and pretty reliable.
