I'm considering buying a CX-7 and while on the whole there's a lot of positivity around reliability for the 2.3 DISI I'm wary of internet chat about turbo / timing chain / sludge deposit issues, especially as most of the cars are in the 90k-100k mile range

- What should I be looking out for in terms of service history in general / visual clues when inspecting?
- What should I consider in terms of preventative maintenance should I go ahead and buy one?
- Is an extended warranty from the likes of Warranty Direct etc. worthwhile?

Thanks in advance

The VVT chain should be done every 50k miles. A tell tale sign for the VVT on it's way out is to listen for rattles/chain slap on startup. The K04's a prone to failing so keep your eye out for excessive oil usage and smoke bellowing out the back (mine used to give out blue smoke). The conrods a prone to bending so recommend you are over 2.5k revs before you plant it..
