Yaris losing power steering/ABS

Hi all,

My sister has a 2007 Yaris and recently she says the steering all of a sudden gets heavy like she's lost power steering and also the ABS light comes on. She has changed the battery and the alternator but same problem keeps happening.

Any ideas anyone?

I think they're both electric after 2005. (power steering was run off accessory belt before that) Any number of electrical gremlins could be causing it. Loose connector, chafed/broken wire, dodgy relay, control module. I guess you'd need to look at a wiring diagram for where the two systems have commonality.

Any particular situation or conditions it happens in? Speeding up, slowing down, turning left, hot day, wet day, etc?

I have just spoken to her and the garage have told her they found a loose wire in the fuse box, no idea which wire, but if as stated above it could be a loose connector then hopefully it is sorted. Time will tell once she picks it up from the garage.
