Ok, I've been doing the rounds of the used car lots, and nice 4th gen preludes are hard to find. I did try a couple of 5th gen, but my knees kept hitting the steering wheel, and I just couldn't live with the styling. Great feeling of "quality" inside, though.

I tried a Celica too out of interest, but it was far too small for me.

So, I tried a couple of R33 Skylines...and I actually fit! Hooray!

Now, the question is, about 95% of them seem to be autos, so it is worth holding out for a manual? The few manuals I've seen are 2.0 4-doors.

Personally, I don't mind autos, but does it spoil the skyline experience? Is the auto a good 'un with crisp changes and an eager kick-down, or just a big sloppy box of slush? I'll be getting a 2.5 n/a coupe if that makes a difference.

Also, am i right in thinking some liners have a better suspension setup than others? Is it just the coupes? Or just the turbos? And how can I tell the difference?

And finally, I was really, really, tempted by this for a while. (That's about £6k, delivered to my door)

Where have you been looking? I would say its the other way round 95% are manuals.

Probably, I'd defiantley wait for a manual to turn up.

The GTR's probably have the best set-up, I wouldn't imagine that there would be too many differences between the others

Dude, thats an R32. But very cool. If you can afford it, get it. You would never regret it.

I'm 6'3", and about 5 foot of that is in my legs I have trouble finding trousers to fit, never mind cars!

As for autos vs manual, here in NZ the auto box is king, most cars, even sporty ones, are autos Only small base-model cars seem to have manuals.

[homer]mmmm...turbos....[/homer]
I do miss the buzz of a turbo coming on boost, and turbo 'liners seem to be about the same price as n/a's over here for some reason... I'm really tempted, but I'm after a semi-sensible car, and I would only be tempted to start tuning a turbo Maybe when I get bored with the 2.5 n/a....

Insuarance not an issue there then? In UK All 'liners, turbo & n/a are grp 20.Do you have same system as the Ozzies? (insure the car not the person)-cool system, imo.
Are most of the 'liners you see there standard spec?,many we get here have uprated shox already.
Go for the R32 if it looks decent for the money.

So much for getting a sensible, economical car then... I'm slowly going from 130bhp Celica, to 260+bhp Skyline (via 197bhp Prelude of course). Where will it all end!!!

Ok, if anyone can persuade me that a turbo 'liner is as practical/reliable/cheap to run as an n/a, that might just do it!

Still have to persuade the missus of course...

I s'pose you will spend more on petrol, oil & tyres with at RB25DET than a SR or RB25DE(n/a),imo the 2ltr unit is perhaps a little under powered for a large, heavy car.
Assuming you find a mechanically sound example that has been reguarly serviced & looked after, there oughtn't to be any hidden costs. The unit is very well built & should give reliable service even into high mileage.
It's the upgrades/mods that burn ya wallet!
