The tuttle isn't normally particularly interested in styling, body mods for the R33.But for some time now we have had a hankering to fit an open mouthed grille to replace the 3 slatted standard one.
Now I have two
A GTR type-already sprayed the correct white.
.&
A custom made carbon fibre jobbie.(v similar in shape)
Previously we've tried to give the huge whiteness of the car some detailing or contrast by adding some smallish but hopefully tasteful black items.
Black alloy wheels,carb-fib spoiler wing & carb-fib 'B' pillar dressings.
So far we're pleased with it.
Both grilles will need cutting/drilling etc to properly fit-so both are equally a pain.
The white one will just fit in fine(visually)
The carb one is gorgeous, very nicely crafted indeed.I'm worried that amonst the vast expanse of white that is the '33 fr bumper it will look a little,..well...tarty.but it's carbon fibre man!.
See my dilema?
Opinions from the Jap Massif would be most welcome.please.
Will try post some pics later.
Thanks guys

with pained sound.
I do like carb fib bonnets, but there are quite a few white 'liners with them.Besides £900.00 odd could make the damn thing faster!
Pics to aid your comments gentlemen.

upon reading the start of the thread, I had imagined something to go where that stonking great IC is.. and thought that much carbon on a white car might look odd... but then I saw the pics

Definately carbon!! It'd break up the white from bonnet to bumper just nicely!!

Well, I like to bring balance to these sort of discussions.

I personally would go for the carbon one, but painted to match, as I dont really like CF on display. Looks a bit Maxy P (IMO).

I've got a white grille too,so why paint the carb fib?

In case I've confused the issue here. This isn't to cover the fmic,it's to replace the 3-slatted grille above the bumper-where the 'S' badge is.
The whole issue of a teeny bit of carb fib here is,does it seem a bit Laxxy P & pointless? After all,the main use for carbon fibre, lovely tho it is,is to reduce weight.Any difference in weight here is v negligable
Am I just getting a bt 'up meself' here?

Big bits, yes.

Small detailing, I think I'd keep it bare...

Just so you know its CF Agreed the weight saving would be outdone if you decided to wear a sweater whilst driving, instead of a t-shirt, but at least you know its CF.

I also semi agree with MR E, small detailing does look good in CF, but I would say that a whole grille is more than small detailing. The GTR badges on the side of the rear wing in CF are what I would call small detailing.

All IMO of course

The wing end badges are Nismo.
Despite having a GTR type spoiler,am not trying to make a GTR copy-cat,honest
Think I'll prob try the carb fib.Even tho the fitting is different from the white one,I think I'll be able to retro-fit if it all goes horribly wrong.
Thanks for the comments guys

Just my 2p, but I'd go for the white one. Like you say, weight saving on the carb fib one is negligible, so it's mainly for 'bling' effect. Plus the mesh on the white one is black, so that would add a suitable amount of blackness without overdoing it.

I'm thinking if you went carb fib, you might need a carb fib grille over the IC as well to 'balance it up', if you see what I mean... or is that too much black?

I wasn't implying your building a GTR look a like

It was merely an example of what I would call small detailing.

Anyway, either grille will look good. Very good. Its all down to personal taste.

Do you own both grilles? If so, try one, then try the other. Or has someone mentioned that?

Tough to say without seeing them on the car, but I think the carbon one may look a bit out of place on the all white front, so I would say white.

White!

Your car is not dark grey, so it will look like a hole in the middle or you've been to the breakers and are too poor to get a respray. Besides, carbon fibre looks naff unpainted... a Ferrari F40 is painted.
