And in some cases they'd be right.

Try insuring a big 4WD turbo-nutter Skyline or an Evo at my age and you'd struggle...

But for some reason, I'm finding that MR2Ts, FDs and even Supra TTs, aren't that bad to insure.

It'd cost me twice as much to insure a 20 year-old Porker (951) than it would to insure a mid-90s RX7 FD3s, according to Admiral. Neither car is cheap to insure, but that does put it into perspective a bit.

Then again, I could insure a 4.5 litre Cerbera for about the same amount again, so I might as well give up trying to make sense of it all...

Insurance companies, eh! Go figure...

I tend to get quotes in the evenings. I reckon sometimes the salesman is away from his desk and the cleaner picks up the phone.......

I was thinking the same Re the cleaner having a go.

Last year i paid 611 with all modifications declared, this year they sent out a renewal 1 month early for 527 which i thought was great. I called them to accept it thinking i'd mistaken the date of which I paid the year previous.

The confused lady on the phone wouldn't allow it and told me to await the correctly dated letter.

The new letter arrived and the renewal quote was now 702 but if i paid -£3.36 i could include breakdown cover bringing the total premium to 698 and pennies.

Once again I called them, a little bit of forcible talking and the threat of taking my household policy elsewhere they honoured the quote of 527 from the month previous.

Insurance, mad as a box of frogs i tells ya!

Agree!! I managed to get a half decent quote for a Supra TT as a 22yo male driver - now all I need is a Supra...

Actually what's all this people say about a Mk1 MR2 being available on 'classic' insurance? Will prob get one of these if can find a half decent one in the next few weeks - would be nice to get a quote.

Cant remember off the top of my head but if you go for a quote on elephant you can choose lots of different driving quals and see what effect they have.

I'm having the best luck on elephant.co.uk at the moment, they seem to have forgotten the fact I left them with a huge bill when I stacked my MX5 Turbo whilst insured with them 2 years ago.

Since then I bought a pretty heavily modified MR2 GT Turbo which i'm now selling as the company I was insured with won't cover the mods anymore (was Dorset insurance through the owners club) been trying on elephant and getting some pretty good quotes, i'm 23 with 2yrs no claims and 1 accident from 2 years ago.

Best results come from when you put two older drivers on your policy, put my mum and dad on, both have IAM passes and own their own cars, having them as named drivers gave me a policy of £1400 a year on a £10k Evo IV for example.

You mean elephant and admiral don't tell you that they won't insure you if you select any of their listed mods

I tried many options

air filter system..........sorry!
exhaust.........sorry!
tinted windows............sorry!
aftermarket spoilers......yup sorry!

I stayed with liverpool vic in the end, after firm assurance from their representitive that my mods are still OK.

No I just meant that I was looking at standard cars from now on, mods and insurers are too much hassle for me, gonna stick to the addage that if it needs modding you should have bought a better car in the first place from now on I think.
