Ho ho.
If anything, the Evo is quoted at less BHP than it really has.
Mine should have 240-250bhp. I've seen stock cars put 200+ to the wheels, so guessing 260ish at the fly.
Toyota didn't want the GT-Four (255PS) stealing sales from the Jap spec Supra TT (280PS - but really quite a few more).

Quite. I've always thought it common knowledge that the japs underquoted the power outputs of most of the top-end stuff because of the silly "gentlemans agreement" to "limit" cars to 280PS (anyone know why that figure?); eg:
Skyline - 1500kg, 286bhp, 4wd trans losses but still 0-60mph sub 5.0? No way. I'd be suprised if the Supra, NSX, 300ZX, EVO, et al were below 300 "real" bhp given the relative performance of the vehicles. I wasn't *that* far behind a 360 Modena at VMAX, supposedly with another 124bhp over my car as well as the benefit of a 6 speed box.

Anyone wishing to do their own conversion,or just get the facts right in an argument Here's how to workit quick.
Power Conversion: ps to bhp examples:
1.0 Japanese PS = 0.98632 BHP
50 PS = 49.3 BHP
100 PS = 98.6 BHP
120 PS = 118.4 BHP
150 PS = 147.9 BHP
180 PS = 177.5 BHP
200 PS = 197.3 BHP
OR to do own DIY conversions
to convert BHP to KW multiply by 0.7457
"--------" KW to BHP "-----" by 1.3410
to convert BHP to PS "-----" by 1.0139
"--------" PS to BHP "-----" by 0.9863

PS is a german unit of measurement, not a japanese one.
The Japs have been using PS for ages.
My apologies. The Japs used to quote SAE. Something I assumed they still did. I was also wrong with the relative values.
Nothing against Jap motors chaps, had lots of their motor cars and motor cycles.

No hard feelings intended DaftLad.
I feel we put up with a fair amount of Jap bashing(often ill informed, imo).I'm the first to admit that I can be a little defensive/oversensitive sometimes.
So, happy & safe driving fella
