Anyone driven or own an Infiniti? Ive been looking at the Q50 as a daily driver, they are something like £32k new but around £15k for a 15 plate for 8k miles on. I was looking at the diesel auto specifically.

Thanks

Have driven a Q30. Well screwed together, well equipped and they have managed to generate a premium feel to the interior but dynamically it's well short of a Focus or Golf.
Q50 will be pleasant but nowhere near as good as a 5 Series. That said the £15k you're quoting for the Q50 would have you in a much older, higher mileage and less well specced BMW. Choice depends on what you're looking for. If you do end up in a year old Q50 I wouldn't feel sorry for you.

yes they seem good value for money 2nd hand. Ive been toying with low mileage q50 or a 63 plate e class with 40k odd on the clock.

Am on my second Infiniti!

The first was an FX37S It was a great car, never let me down, was (at the time) very rarer to see one on the road. For a big 4x4 it drove very much like a car - you can throw it around well.

I then went back to an X5 as wife wanted 7 seats (but never used them). So I went back and bought another FX, this time the FX50, with a 5l V8... Same a s before - great to drive, but now it's really fun. the 3.7l had plenty of poke, but the 5l can put a grin on your face!

The negatives - its a wide car, and the front doors are quite long - can make parking in tight spaces a little awkward. The only other negative, is because of the shape of the rear, the boot isnt quite as big, as you would expect it may be...

But as a pacvkage, it is very well put together, and has a nice feel inside. Cant recommend highly enough (and I am tough to please!). I assume the Q50 will have the same build quality, and attention to detail.

I've just read some reviews on the net and watched some on YouTube. Everyone pretty much lambasts the steering, which is a shame as otherwise it seems a decent motor.

I've owned and ran a Mercedes as company car. Infinities are pretty much up there as far as cabin ambiance is concerned and probably offer more kit for the same money. The drawbacks are that from an ergonomic perspective everything on the Mercedes feels better thought out and works just that little bit better and according to road tests (never had the pleasure of driving the Q50) the E Class has the Q50 well beaten as a driving experience.

The reviews online are a bit odd. The car mags slate it but personal reviews love it. But both agree on avoiding the fly by wire fancy steering option, which most of the 2nd hand ones dont have.
The Q50 I believe has the Merc engine and gear box.

Well worth a test drive. I did want a Infiniti M with the 3.7 v6 - but with a young child wanting to ride her bike all the time the boots not deep enough.

Well made cars - will outlive certain german brands - although I haven't driven a diesel version so not sure how good these are.

Some cracking deals though on "nearly new". I would probably go for a Q50 over a 3 year old mileage depending Merc / Audi / BMW. They do a petrol 2.0 turbo version (merc engine as well I believe?).

An equivalent priced 520d se has about 60k on. So in that respect they are a good buy.

Car mag writers are more likely comparing within class or like for like. As in, Q50 vs E class or 5 series.

Owners, are in something fully spec'd and next segment up from the Mondeo they could have bought with the same money. Their opinion is likely biased by that.

Another Fx 50 owner here. I'm very pleased with it overall, well made, quick and a good steer for a sporty SUV..only thing I'm not totally happy with is the gearbox which is refined but a slurry at times. Much better in sport actually.

Oh and of course it looks different and is rare.

The question will be what they're likely to be worth years down the line. I can imagine the FX models fine as they have limited numbers but the smaller volume models might not hold up - then again suppose could be similar to Lexus, they should be reliable.

I'd buy one if I were in the market for type of car.

surely the Q70 is the 5 series equivalent?

interiors look OK. if you aren't image conscious they are probably a reasonably good value proposition but the majority of people will assume you are driving something Korean (and cheap), they definitely don't have the mass market prestige of a merc/bmw/audi/lexus.

at the same time, if you genuinely aren't image conscious and want something comfortable and low hassle, just get a kia optima or Hyundai i40 with a massive warranty. or a skoda superb.

Q50 owner here!

We love it and don't see a problem with the steering. It feels very similar to the rx8 (steering 'feel') and can be adapted from a standard to a sport mode where it becomes a bit heavier.

Infiniti are quite flexible on the price so you can be cheeky. Ours was a top spec Sport with multimedia pack (incredible sound system) with 6 000 miles on it and 11months old. Cost £15k in the Summer last year biggrin we did look at the German offerings but they were under specced and overpriced in comparison to the q50.

All I can really advise is to try one and see what you think. They definitely offer a lot for the money.

£2.5k drop from £17.5k

I believe our sport model does have the electronic steering. Like I say, we've not found it to be an issue smile

I have to say i really like them and always have. I have test driven an FX crossover thingy 2 years ago which I really liked but at the time I didnt go forward with it as I wanted something with lots of poke and it was a 3 litre derv.

Now I am looking at them again specifically the q50 3.5 hybrid which seems to have silly performance. I beleive they are due to bring out a new one or a new q70 and I am very very very interested to see how it turns out becuase right now I BLOODY LOVE THE Q60 COUPE, I think it slaps everything this side of 70/80k. gorgeous car inside and out, drive is meant to be brilliant, yes journos are complaining about steering but id take this with a pinch of salt and on the plus side that might get better as they do more software updates.

I am looking forward to what infiniti do in the next 2 years, without a doubt I will have one.

Where do they sit quality wise? BMW? Lexus?

Also, can you service them at Toyota?

You might find you have more luck at a Nissan garage.
