Well after much investigation, the oil leak on the tubby still isnt fixed

Now, I was hoping to perform some upgrades this summer (chargecooler, boost increase, some new wheels) but I dont feel happy upgrading the engine whilst its still loosing oil.

Also, Im not one to let a problem *beat* me - I'll keep chucking money at it until its fixed! (Financial suicide I know). So, I'm saving my pennies, and the engine is going to come out. Hopefully they'll then find the leak. (Not guaranteed though)

In order to make a little more financial sense - I'll be having some other work done at the same time. I'm certainly going to be getting the cambelt done - is it worth getting a new clutch at the same time? (I dont really want to do this as the current clutch seems fine. )

Anyone got any suggestions of some worthwhile upgrades while the engine is out? I think a chargecooler will be going in, but thats all I can think of for now....

If it was mine and it was suffering an oil servere enough to warrant an engine removal *shivers at the memory of replacing an MR2 motor on a G-limited*

i'd pull the whole lot apart, honed bores, new rings, pistons cleaned (if the cylinders/pistons are still good)
balanced crank and rods with uprated bolts, lightened flywheel and a ceramic clutch

uprated headgasket, alongside all the other bits and bobs needed to build a motor capable of serious Boost.

maybe that involves spending a little too much money, and i haven't touched on a bigger turbo and higher flowing fuel system

Fly/Clutch & motor mounts as a minimum.

I'd probably rebuild the whole bloody thing as well.

Have you found where the oil is leaking from yet,Flibbles? Assuming that doesn't turn out too serious & the engine is basically good & strong.If youre putting in a c/cooler-I'd spend on 'sorting the turbo & necessary systems.Fuel pump,regulator & injectors.Thicker steel head gasket.Elec boost controller send yer turbo off to T.Technics for Hybryding.Big ca$h tho-& while you've got the cyl head off......kerching $$$$

annoying.

hope you get it fixed without too much cost!

providing the company knows what they are doing on your specific engine, if it's out i'd have the whole car uprated to a noticeably improved sports car, performance- and handling-wise. least you'll have something to look forward to when it comes back!
