It depends entirely on the car. It could be ok, its could be a nightmare. It is the lower end of the price spectrum though.
After having driven mine this week since last august im in love again. Wish someone had bought it before I drove it again as somethings telling me ill end up keeping it now.

As Lee said - get a specialist to look it over and you should have some idea of the car's quality.
I'd like to think that you'd only find a dog for 5k but I know someone who picked up a complete gem recently for 6.5k, you might get a decent one for 5k.
The bottom's really dropped out ofhte prices this alst year - not sure if it's the same fot all the imports.

PS. Go on, you know it makes sense

Also like to think you get what you pay for,but you never know.Research & scrutinise the Rex as much as poss.
Have noticed a significant drop in the price of performance Jap cars in recent months, esp:scoobies, skylines etc.So good time to buy-not so good for owner/sellers Plenty of bargains out there.
Winter months are traditionally bad times for sellers, hopefully once the spring & show season arrive to generate some interest the prices will start to climb a bit.

Again, I'm no expert and dont really know much about them.
But I would expect that for £5k, it'd be the lower end of the scale, possible rebuild looming??
When I was looking into getting the '4, I asked if I should get AA or RAC inspection, and was told dont bother. They only work for run-of-the-mill cars like Vectras and Mundanos. Try and find a specialist in your area (or local to the seller) and try to get them to look over it with you.
They are great cars, and I will own one, one day. But was it MrE who said, if you cant afford a good one, you cant afford to run a bad one!!
(apologies MrE if you wasn't you who said that! If so, apologies to whoever did say it.)

I paid 3750 for my 93 FD at auction. Needed no work, was all original paint, no damage, no rust, it ran for umpteen track days, got some serious grief, then one of the turbos binned an exhaust impeller. They are hated in the trade for their mega unreliability, so if you shop around you can find bargains. Mine came from www.theauctiongroup.co.uk (or.com i can't recall). Most are wildy overpriced, IMO. Expect trouble, expect 60k mile engine rebuilds, expect stunning chassis dynamics, expect single figure fuel consumption driven hard, and you won't be disappointed!
OOh thats a nice one Gazboy, not the one tho.
