I posted this in GG but got no response so maybe more luck here

Hi
I've had an idea of finding and restoring an old Nissan D21 pickup as I've always had a love for them. I can't really explain why but I've decided I'd really like to own one. I decided this a while ago actually but my hunt has been fruitless. They didn't really sell the model I like in the uk so after reading a few readers car threads on PH I thought I may look further a field.

So a chap on here found and imported a beautiful old pagoda SL and had it shipped over from the states and more recently a chap bought a cool little Japanese Honda hatchback that he then had to import from Japan. I can't find these threads through the search unfortunately but there must be a few people who have been down this route.

Can anyone offer advice on the do's and don'ts of importing. I'm also in need of resources where I may find the vehicle I'm after. I just had a quick look on EBay.com and there's only 3 D21's listed which seems absurd as they were really very popular trucks I believe. Am I just looking in the wrong place. What are my chances of finding one in Japan, and which is an easier job of exporting from.

Many thanks for any advice

Hit them up. It's a new venture, and unfortunately one of the proprietors got in a bad car accident the other day and has been in and out of surgery for days, so perhaps don't expect a speedy response right now.

It was sold as the Navara in NZ and Aus, there are still a fair few kicking around but most have had pretty hard lives. Can't help you with importing process but it might give you somewhere else to look for vehicles, try here:

There is also the WD21 Terrano/Pathfinder based on the same chassis if you're trying to find parts, and plenty of interchangable parts from later model Terrano/Pathfinders if you want more powerful engines or a stronger drivetrain.

I'm afraid that because I used Torque GT I can't advise on the sourcing bit, but use them if you want to as they are exceptionally good.

If not then try jdmauctionwatch and then you can see what it's like to look at stuff before starting.
