oh I feel like crying
the wife's had a 2012 qahqai since new. 3.5 year old 30k miles. engine just effectively blown up and they say it needs new engine.
car worth 9k. they want 8k for engine.
Anyone recommend a deal for the wife a family car and/or recommend a particular lease company. As no doubt im going to be arguing with Nissan for some months over the cost of this
I'd be hugely disappointed if Nissan didn't cover a large slice of those costs for a car of that age, providing it has been serviced properly. I had a similar issue with a BMW which was four years old and BMW covered the parts and I paid the labour. the wife's had a 2012 qahqai since new. 3.5 year old 30k miles. engine just effectively blown up and they say it needs new engine.

I guess it depends why the engine has went pop on his wifes car. Any other news?
Also, it's a Qashqai, they're 10 a penny... he must be able to get a replacement engine from a scrapyard for a fraction of the price!

Had a 3 year old Primera that the engine went 5 months after buying it. It went in for it's first service and I strongly suspected they forgot to fill it with oil before the road test as it was all signed off and ready to collect. When my wife arrived they told me the engine was faulty and the start of two weeks of argument over responsibility (despite full nissan warranty).
It ended up with a new engine that was crated from the factory, £8k work under warranty.

The problem as far as I no was the fact that the cam belt pulleys were not in alignment which caused the belt to fail early due to rubbing the side of it away, I'm sure it was the fuel pump pulley, I would of thought the problem would have been rectified now under warranty, if not I'd be inclined to get the alignment of the pulleys checked and ask why it hasn't been resolved before now as a recall
WARNING: I to have a 1.2 Tenka Qashqai and guess what, the engine just stopped at a petrol station and having been recovered, the dealer has given me a quote of nearly £7k for a new engine. This on a car that is 4.5 years old and only 40k on the mileage. Despicable. Clearly there is an issue as so many telling the same. I am about to take this up with the dealer but of course, they will hide behind legals and at the end of the day, I need a car for work and life. This is unacceptable and passing on manufacturing issues to the consumer - as with the financial sector, all the roads lead back to the wallet of the consumer with no recourse. Don't buy a Qashqai 1.2 petrol engine is my advice. Oh and check forums like this for any other brand to at least reduce the risk to you.... the paying consumer.

That’s bad news hope you get it sorted - post up more details on why it failed ( once you get more info ).There were a batch of 1.2 engines fitted with incorrect pistons, resulting in excessive oil consumption, Nissan replaced loads of units for this issue, wasn't failure due to low oil was it.?
We have a 1.2 auto on a 66 plate and i believe the issue was solved before ours was built, but its being changed this year anyway, new qashqai has a 1.3 petrol engine.
