Hi,
I have bought a Celica with the wrong coolant in it.
It has blue and I understand it needs pink/red.
I have been quoted £40 to have it flushed and filled with the correct coolant but they said as it has had the wrong stuff in it they want to flush it with a solution to totally clean it out.
My question is do you feel the solution flush is needed?
Thank you.
Al

Open the drain at the bottom of the radiator and let the coolant drain out. Refill with water, start the car and let it run for a bit, kill the engine and drain. Rinse and repeat until the the fluid you are draining is clear. That's the method I have used before.

I did this on my 81 lancer turbo, it needed blue in it, as the pink stuff OAT has acid which corrodes any yellow metal in the engine such as the brass rings on the head gasket, the brass thermostat and radiator.

To be honest you could probably leave the blue in there, the difference is that it is non environmentally friendly and contains silicates.

However, to flush mine out I drained ran until hot, allowed to cool right down and then refilled with clean water and repeated about 5 times until the pink had completely gone. Takes a bit of doing but to my knowledge there's no additive which does the job for you, plain water is best, just do it a few times to be sure.
