Mrs Jim AK has announced that she wants a small 4x4 & has seen a Shogun Pinin for sale nearby 5 door 110k!!

I know nothing about these at all & wondered if anyone has any clues what I should look for, apart from usual stuff obviously. Things like corrosion issues, gear/transfer box, engine niggles (water pump change with cam belt etc).

Its only being bought for use as a means of taking dogs for walks & access to a field that we use.

All info gratefully accepted. TIA

Seeing as no-one else has said anything I'll give my (very) limited experience...

My brother had one when he lived in Swaziland in southern Africa. It was the 3-dr 1800cc petrol with an auto box.

It did struggle up some of the hills there, but was otherwise suitably nippy around town if you let it rev itself out.

We did some mild offroading in it and it wouldn't go into low-range but the same issue would probably affect 90% of the world's 4x4s that are only driven on the road.

They are tiny inside and it had a comedy Japanese display.

Colleague of mine got one of these as a stopgap and she complained that it was tiny inside.

Thanks for the input people. I`ve not seen the thing yet but I`ve read about corrosion, issues with 1.8 engines & the room & ride, or lack of it!

Its a 5 door so I assume an `LWB` Will only do short journeys so will have a look at it next weekend.

Update if anyone cares.

Eventually got to look at the thing last weekend. 1 word. Hateful!

It was in good fettle but so cramped, as pointed out already, & horrid ride.

A joint decision has been taken..... Subaru Forester.

Thanks for the info anyway.

The Scooby is a good choice, jack of all trades to an extent. Enjoy it.
