Does anyone know of the WEST factory in Japan, they have been building open wheeler and sports racing cars since before 1980 and now have constructed in excess of 1000 cars. Their cars competed against Porsche 962 cars in the late 1980's, they did not beat them home of course. I am trying to get some history on the cars

Thank you very much for that. I am aware of that website, and am aware the company are still in business and are currently producing open wheelers and sports racing cars. The website below shows that four WEST 89S cars competed in the 1989 Suzuka 1000km race but there is no real detail of the entries. I am hopeful of locating someone who may have more complete records of the entries and the results.

The cars are very sophisticated with very high quality monocoque construction, powered by a Mazda Rotary engine mated with a Hewland gearbox and transaxle. The gearbox housing was cast by EMKIE who make Magnesium wheels. I have emailed that factory without response. Japan has a very strong motor sport following and culture and I am hopeful of locating someone with detailed records of the period
