General gassing didn't really help so thought I'd change to this section.
Title says it, want a japanease turbo car, been mainly looking at the blob eye wrx and gtst as my budget is 6000, was thinking of a mk5 gti but that's FWD and not jap.
Peoples opinion as will be a daily, lightly modified.

Well always had FWD n/a small engine cars to save for mortgage reason. But hit my target so I want to get a 'fun' daily driver and always loved turbos. Running costs I can imagine high as never experienced them before it'll be new. Hence why I'm leaning to a GTI as a daily to have a bit of fun but lower costs as FWD but don't want to be torque steering and under steering all over the place.
Gtst is always in my heart but not a sensible daily I've been told so maybe a weekend car one day

Impreza running costs aren't too bad as long as you're old enough on the insurance front and don't do too many miles. Parts are widely available and a lot of performance can be had for not much money. I've got a work car and a modified RB5 (355bhp) and the RB5 really is a pleasure to drive. It has a induction kit & miltek exhaust (and much more) and it sounds spectacular and is very fast but does about 15-18mpg around town and mid 20's on a run. The rush of my car when it comes on boost is a lot of fun although its very quick to move into license losing territory if you're not careful! Still 6k will get you a very good Impreza, I'm not sure about the GTST (I don't know enough about them).
I've had various Golf's over the years and like them but I really consider them with the exception of the R to be faster versions of the normal car rather than something special to drive.
