They've gone up quite a bit in the last 12 months but £18-£20k gets you a rust-free 50k miles fresh japanese import. While the Integrale Evo 2s soar past £40k, the Tommi Mak's are still looking very good value. Much quicker than an Integrale too!

That is a cracking looking car, one of my favourite rally reps of all time. The Makinen Mitsubishi years have got to be some of the best in rallying.

The TME must be the last of the proper rally reps, I can't think of anything more recent?

Different back in the 90's, you could watch the WRC and then go out and buy something that resembled the cars you saw on the stages. Cosworths, Subaru's, Lancias etc

Not now, last time I looked, not many Polo WRCs down at the local VW dealer!

Totally agree. The Mak was the last car to win in Group A spec. It won 3 times in 2001, beating the new, faster WRC spec cars that didn't require the same homologation rules. That's what stopped the whole supply of brilliant road cars in its tracks. Hence nothing since 2001 really. Ford Focus RS maybe? Sort of, but not 4WD or closely related to an actual rally car. All those championships and what road cars have Citroen got to show for it?

If only they would change the regs again but I guess they're worried about how much it would cost manufacturers to go rallying. If they made them all produce 500 road versions they would probably all pull out of the WRC. Real shame. Some of the best relatively affordable performance cars came out of rallying.
