Ok, so I'm pretty much settled on Oz SuperLeggras. Mainly because I know they'll fit.

So, 17x8's running 235/40R17s

or

18x8's running 235/35R18s

18's will look better.
17's will probably go better. Probably. Although the car is so stiff anyway it might make little difference.

18's on rubber bands

BTW have you seen the new split rim design that OZ do, I think it's in the super leg style.

Which ever combo weighs less obviously, unless it is show not go you are after?

They say 17's for go, 18's for show. That extra rotational mass further from the centre can make a difference to performance, and the smaller sidewalls will make the ride harsher and could make for less progressive breakaway. You generally have less choice of tyres, and they will be more expensive.

But they (usually) look better

I'm thinking of upgrading my alloys and haven't decided which size to go for, I'm leaning towards 17's as they still look better and shouldn't affect the car too much.

Got 17's on the '33,& the car swamps them.I believe that the ride/handling quality is more or less optimal at 17" iirc.Tho I'm not sure the 1" diameter would make that much difference to the above,& they(18's) would prob look better.

Right, I think I have made a decision. I think I'm going 225/40R18s.....

Simply because Dan has them on his red Four;

Sound choice. The OZ'legs are kinda classic,so you can't really go wrong there, imo. The 18's seem to fill his arches nicely.I imagine there would be some weight savings there too.

Personally I'd go with 17" for all the reasons mentioned above plus the liklihood of 18" remaining round after the third or fourth pot-hole is not so great.

If we had super smooth french roads then 18" for sure...

Agreed, but leggies should be strong as hell.

Should be fine, that is the same size tyre as the front of the noble and the wifes Golf has them all round too, 40 isn't a stupidly small profile for that width and the oz wheels should be plenty strong.
