My RAV4 is throwing a P0627 OBDii code, which indicates the following problem with the fuel pump SCV's (Suction Control Valves):-

So I replaced the Suction Control Valves in the fuel pump about a year ago (replacement set of Denso original valves is around £200 up) and everything worked fine until about a month back, then the same error code was generated by the same lack of power problem (essentially the power dips after about 2,300 revs in second, third and fourth). Very occasionally it clears and everything works fine for a little while.

It transpires that the car works fine for about a week (say 100 miles?) if I either:-
1) take the current valves out and clean them and put them back in
or
2) swap back to the original valves after cleaning

The fact is that the car works perfectly when it works, so I can't see that there is a mechanical fault with the fuel pump.

I'm reluctant to give it to Toyota as it is only worth a couple of grand and this would get swallowed up easily with extensive diagnostics or replacing the fuel pump/ECU/turbo whatever!

However, I am also aware that there 'may' be a software upgrade available from Toyota that may help...

Does anybody know anything about any of this??? I've run out of patience and would happily chuck the ****** thing away!

Help!

Well, its a bit of a first, but it turns out the PH isn't the font of all knowledge!

Problem discussed on the UK RAV4 drivers club forum HERE

We collectively think my problem is down to using crap supermarket diesel fuel, and currently the car is running ok on Total Excellium. I'll update this thread if my problem reoccurs so that anybody else who looks on here may find this helpful...
