I have a mk3 mr2 and have owned an elise in the past. The mr2 isnt quite as special feeling to drive but its nearly as good objectivly in most aspects. Still handles better than most cars and is great fun to drive. Easier to live with (roof that doesnt need building) and far better built. I sure the OP will love it.

Assuming you have or have had a VX220, would be interested in hearing how the Mk3 compares.
Had the VX about 12yrs ago, I did 34,500 miles in 13 months in it! Loved it!Will update next week once I've put some miles on the MR2
It's going to be amazing compared to the diseasel Bora I've had for the last five years...

I think the series 2 Elise/vx220 hood is easier than the MR2, but only tried it the onceIIRC original Elise has atricky hood?

Typical "Essex man" first run out last night, just rolled down to the seafront from Basiltown!
Nowhere near as raw as I remember the VX, MrsVX220 much prefered it. She said it felt "more like a car"! For a cheapie little daily it's very nice indeed. For me (no trackdays or traffic light Grand Prix) it's probably 80% of the car for <20% of the price.
Very happy!

Bit of an update...
Lads at school love it! (Staff do some ferrying for the boys, and I have become the "go-to" for this...)
91yr old Grandma had a run down to the seafront yesterday, absolutely loved it (and managed to get out!)
Hood down everyday since I collected it, first longer run today, see how the motorways are

Sounds like you're enjoying it!
How do you find the performance?
Nice to be back in a car that is involving to drive. It's my daily, so no issues with performace (if you keep the revs up)How do you find the performance?
IIRC they're 8 seconds to 60, which is enough for me. Just good cheap fun, really. Amazing how much you can fit in it!

A few Q please: is the back road ride ok or good? - Any scuttle shake or unfixable rattles?
Std exhaust? Economy to date? Water and draft proof wit top up? Road tax?
Thx, considering one as daily transport if fun element & performance enough to pull me away from luxury of X Type SE
I came from a lowered vw bora on 18" wheels, so for me the ride is a revelation! No leaks so far, not monitored consumption. It does have some shake over some of the rough stuff, and the seats squeak a little. But against this, I am now diesel-powered!Std exhaust? Economy to date? Water and draft proof wit top up? Road tax?

I paid <£2k (pfl) and for that it's unbeatable imo
Would have been happy with an mx5,if the steering wheel had cleared my thighs!

Pictures man!! pictures!!!
I haven't even taken any, as it's a boggo blue mkiii PFL!I don't even think it's that nice a shade of blue!
...and it could do with lowering, and an induction kit, and a tiny subwoofer!
But I had a great run through the lanes tonight, so much more involving than the Bora!
