300ZX - Talk me out of it.

Ive got a MK1 MX5 (modified) that I use daily for work and blasting around on a weekend, Ive also got a money pit of a (dead) RX7 that I should be spending money on instead. The MX5 Ive had for two years and its at a stage where everything works and all I need to sort is the paint. I still love it, but I like to live dangerously so I spend weekends looking at cars for sale online. I cant seem to shake the urge to buy a 300ZX.

Realistically Im never going to sell the RX7 unless my life depends on it, so it would mean chopping in my reliable/interesting/sporty daily if I were to take the plunge and buy a 300ZX. Every fibre of my being knows this ridiculous, but Ive still got one ebay browser open while I type this. Whats wrong with me?

Buying one isn't a bad idea, using one as a daily is for all the reasons you'd expect. Rot, age equalling unreliability, parts can be rare and expensive. And personally they're not that great to drive.
A mate has one, he's on his 2nd or 3rd engine rebuild in 5-6 years now I believe, 2 bodyshop visits for for after it came back the first time and engine was out again recently fixing more faults.

Sign up to 300zx.co.uk forum there is lots of good information about them. Having read about it I wouldn't use one as a daily, but as something to cruise around the countryside they'd take some beating imo. I am biased though, I love the looks and think the styling is spot on

Had a passenger ride in one and it was very good, hung on to the road better than alot of other cars I've been in, only had a small tweak to the suspension.

After a while it will probably just feel fat and heavy and you'll miss the fun and involvement of the MX5.
