I cannot believe this. Was I Hitler in a previous life?

Right - open to the floor.

Left work (a good 15 mile drive home) car drove fine. Stopped at Tesco. Shopped. Came out of Tesco. Started the car.

Reversed out of the bay, and the steering seemed really really heavy. No assistance at all. P/S red light on on dash. Fcuk.

Stopped engine and restarted. Red light. Had to limp home (1/2 mile at most). There seems to be some assistance, but not much.

Got home and have just checked P/S fluid level. Its fine.

Also, noticed that the p/s light comes on with the ignition on before the engine has even started! (I mean stays on after the preliminary check of course).

WTF is wrong with it now? My guess is that my PAS pump has packed in, but why would it go completely with no warning.

Just looked on mr2oc, and a guy has the exact same thing.

Some people suggested the battery could be low. Is this correct?

Ok, I dont want to speak toon soon, but a sticking PAS relay was also suggested - turning the ign on and off quickly for a minuite seems to have fixed it. Top bombin!

well, I havent driven it, but the engine runs with no PAS light, and the wheel turns!

I love it mate - but I must admit to living in constant fear of things going wrong.

For some reason I am really concerned about HGF and turbo death.

I've already replaced the radiator, and I want to be upgrading not fixing!

I also need to fork out to get this oil leak sorted, and hopefully this PAS will be fixed.

Common problem.

Mine did it once as well in a service station forecourt.

I switched off then on again and it was fine.

Its electrically powered on the MR2 isnt it?
So a relay fault is very likely to be the problem.
Pull it out and check the state of the connections underneath. If needed, clean them with electrical contact cleaner and/or fine scothcbrite.
