Celica revs rise and fall at idle
Discussion
My 02 celica developed a strange fault on the way to work this morning.
Whenever, I put my foot on the clutch or stuck it in neutral the revs would rise from 1000 to 2200 revs then fall back and rise repeatedly. Hugely embarassing at traffic lights!!
It's always revved high when cold but it's never done anything like this before.
Tried stopping and starting the engine (not much else you can do on the way to work) but that didn't work.
If anyone's got any pointers on what to look for when I get it home it would be appreciated.
Cheers.

Can't help you directly sorry fella, never had a celica - however I did have an old runabout Skoda Fabia for a while once which exhibited exactly the same symptoms and in the end it was a sticky/gummed up throttle body - I think the "fix" was pulling the TB out and giving it a good clean with liberal blasts of cleaner.
Hope you get it sorted soon.

I would check / clean / replace from my experience of the 3G-SE engine the following:
- MAF
- Idle control valve
- A/C idle raise valve
There may be more control systems on your later VVTi engine so hopefully someone will be along shortly to add the this list.
Best of luck in getting to the bottom of this.
