Hi,
I am looking into buying a weekend sports car.
Currently my daily drive is a 2011 Nissan juke which I am not looking to replace yet.
I'm a 21 year old petrol head with more money than sense.
I am looking currently at an rx8,
Buy and insure for £5k (£3k will buy a 30,000 miles 07)
Now i know they arnt cars for the faint of hearted.
For the people with Rx8 knowhow, what tips would you suggest when looking, (compression test, what does it do)
For the rest what other sports cars would you recommend, aim to buy and insure for 5k
Thank you

first thing is to get a compression test before you buy.

at 30k miles your looking at a large expense with the coils and spark plugs needing to be changed - some owners do this earlier than what mazda stated ie. i change mine every 20000 miles at a cost of around £600 including labour.

go check out rx8ownersclub.co.uk / rx8club.com theres lots of info about what to look out for when purchasing a rx8

Get onto the owners clubs, MRC or RX8OC.

Absolutely no question--get an RX8

Came to mine about 18 months ago as a stop gap after selling my 350bhp Lotus Esprit V8 Twin Turbo.

Still got it...and still not too worried about a proper Lotus replacement.

Which car was fastest-Lotus
Which car was most impressive-Lotus

Which seat is the nicer environment Mazda
Which is the most fun to drive Mazda

Which one uses the most fuel About the same!!!!

One was worth £24000 and the mazda (10000miles) owes me £5000. And although it may seem it,I am actually not trying to do an inappropriate comparison, more give you a taste of how I rate the car.

Do not pay for a plug, lead and coil change --so so easy to work on and do the change yourself.(still £300 i recall).

Of course I am biased, but I went through the same process as you and cannot think of a better fun car at that sort of money. My Son (21) also runs one, so its not just the fact that I am an old fogey!!!!!

Now I know if they go wrong (and they can) they can cost, but for example, an engine rebuild is peanuts compared to any other similar car.

Be brave......

RX8 all the way.

Buying an '07 plate will put you in the £500 tax bracket and fuel consumption is not that great, around 17-21mpg. But what fun to drive, i don't regret buying my '06 plate PZ.

As others have said get it compression tested by a proper rotary specialist (where you based?) and make sure you have the cars history as if its been looked after you can bet the compression is good.

Prices are rock bottom for these cars due to the horror stories that people spread on the web.

Good luck pal.
