Greetings. Was replacing the expansion tank cap and associated plumbing. I took the system filler cap off and noticed that there was no coolant in the system! Nothing in the pipes nothing in the expansion tank. I aquired some forlife coolant, filled up the system. Ran the engine idling for a few mins to try to push out any remaining air, pushed the pipes around got a few bubbles out and topped up. Filled up the tank half way and capped the system. I could not see anything resembling a leak in the system while doing this. I presume the coolant had evaporated out of the holes in the old tank cap.

The thing is, bleeding the coolant for air in the haynes manual couldnt be less documented if it was an enigma encrypted haiku. Am I safe to run the engine if I am not sure the coolant system is free of air?

Requesting advice from anyone with mehanical knowlege of the wierd cooling system of the mr2 mark 1

Coolant leak located, under front bulkhead roughly in the vicinity of the drain cock. Cant get to it due to a lack of axle stands and trolly jacks. Mechanic coming round tomorrow, Didnt think it would be a good idea to drive to Arundel to meet him there.

Well, it could bebetter, At least this happened now while i'm taking some time off. If i'd have been working i'd have killed another engine.

Bleeding the mk1 is a bit of a pain, but I posted a description of the process (from memory) here: www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=42347&f=71&h=0&hw=mr2+bleed
