Mk2 mr2 suspension.
Discussion
Hi all, im looking to give the suspension a refresh on my rev3 n/a. Im after new struts and springs all round. I would prefer genuine toyota items but they seem quite pricey. Can anyone suggest an aftermarket set that offer the same performance but are less pricey? Thanks in advance.
I have no idea what Toyota charge for the stock OEM items as I'm running coilovers.
Your best bet is to speak to Trevor at TCB - http://www.tcbparts.co.uk/
You'll need new topmounts as well.
The existing springs are likely to be tired too.
Depends on whether you want to stick with the stock ride height or lower the car.

Hi there, thanks for the reply. That place was suggested to me on the mr2 forum as well. Im looking at getting struts springs, top mounts and bushes as well. Im no mechanic so can anyone suggest any other bits that will need replacing?
TCB is highly regarded in the MR2 community. Trevor is not only a genuinely nice guy, his customer service is one of the best around, and he doesn't rip you off on price. As for other bits, if they are the original items (and therefore between 15-20 years old) replace the flexible brake hoses all round, then purge the system of all the old fluid and replace with fresh. Old tired lines and fluid can degrade performance. The drop off is so gradual over time that most people never notice. The improvement is noticeable and, if the existing stuff is well past its sell-by date, can be astonishing.
The Mk2 has floating calipers and tends to suffer from the sliders/pistons seizing. Uneven pad wear will result so check the lot. With the suspension being done it make sense to combine the work especially if you're paying the labour cost for someone else to do it.
