Mk2 MR 2 Vs MX-5
Discussion
Hi folks, I could do with a bit of advice.
Earlier this year i had to sell my 1992 MX-5 when I lost my job, but he good news is that I never spent the money and have been back in work for the last 6 months.
I really liked the MX-5, the way it went and handled plus the low running costs. As much as I liked that car I would like to get something different this time.
My question is, how do the two cars compare ? I have never driven an MR2 and would welcome some feed back on what they are like , using the MX-5 as a bench mark for comparrison. Would I be disapointed ?
I am looking to buy a uk car 2.0l or GT, non T-bar and would like to hear of your experiences.

I don't know much about the MR2 but I do own an MX-5 and I can tell you it's by far the most fun car I've ever driven. My other car is an RX-7 which is different to the '5 in the same way the MR2 is - hard top, much faster so in that respect I can compare them. If you want fun, buy the '5, if you want to go fast buy the MR2.

The Mx5's handling is much more playful than the MR2. Being front engined it's easier to regain control if it ends up sliding a little too far.
Speed wise, I've driven a modded MR2 turbo which was pretty quick once you'd given the turbo written notice to spool up. Imo, even the 1.8 MX5 never felt fast. It was all about the handling, as I'm sure you know.
I think the MR2 would be easier to live with. It's better on the motorway and it's more comfortable than the MX5, but the MX seems like more fun.
Hmm, I haven't made this any easier have I?
You pays yer money....

every journey home from work (especially when it's wet ) puts a stupid great grin on my face... and it doesn't even go fast.... what more can you say.
except maybe, if you want it to go fast, £2k on an MP62 supercharger will give you over 200bhp and a lovely linear delivery.. to make dry roundabouts as much fun as wet ones are now

you'll only get out when you run out of fuel).
...which i've found to be every 5 mins!
Aye, MR2T do like the fuel, especially if your drive in a spirited manner.
In 8 laps of Castle combe I went through a 1/4 of a tank once (I did out drag a Skyline on the start/finish straight though)
