Had a white Mk1, leather, Tbar as my 3rd car, a good while ago. Was pretty much concours, until written off one awful evening. Year on, now thinking of getting another, hopefully as mint as my 1st (if that's possible 10 years on).
Having had a couple of TVRs since, am I going to be disappointed with it? At the time, I loved it to bits, but since then a V6 followed by a V8.. I wonder...

4A-GZE should kick out near 200bhp-200lb/ft. Should make it fairly entertaining.

A bloke in the NE of England (Paul Woods) will do a conversion to a 2.0 Turbo (from an MR2 Mk2) at very reasonable cost - makes a fantastic car, an easy 280 odd bhp in 1000kg, goes like sh!t off a shovel and can hold off practically anything on twisties.

Very helpful bloke too, email me for his contact detials if you're interested or check out www.mr2mk1club.com or maybe www.mk1mr2club.com (always get mixed up sorry!)

That sounds pretty fab.
However, for right now my challenge is to find a mint white leather Mk1 Tbar. Had a look at a few now that havent found the prefect one yet. Am I being unrealistic do you think ?

Nope, they are out there but you'll have to search high and low for one. A mate of mine's on his third Mk1 MR2 and his latest one is a peach. 27k miles, full (and I mean full) service history, mint bodywork with no rust, 1 previous owner from new, UK car, white T-Bar and totally original. Cost £1500 (he nearly bit the guys arm off as it really is very nice).

Good luck with the search

That's the only bad point, it has cloth seats with a slight blue hint to the plastics. He wasn't specifically looking for leather and to be honest the bodywork/general condition is what you should be focusing on, as it's probably easier to find a scrapped one with leather that you can buy the interior from.

Hmmm, turbo Mk1 MR2. I want one! Even in standard 245bhp/225ft lbs that would be a total rocketship. Very stealth too.

Not just a (3.0 Toyota Camry) V6 - he's turbocharging it too!

I may go & have a look at one soon; but a question to the massif...

The seller tells me it's been lowered; will this affect insurance? (from the photos cant see a lot of differene myself have to admit) And does this shout out 'AVOID THIS CAR' to anyone ? Been sent some JPGs and it looks very nice.

Mk1 mr2s seem to be a bit resilient for an early 80s mid engined exotica An old schoolmate of mine had one given to him by his grandfather whod owned it from new. Itd been stored in a shed for 10 years - they went over with a fresh battery and it started instantly and he drove it home! (where the altenator died), but saw it a few days later after some serious t-cut and polish and of course a new alt and it was the mintest mintest mintest mintest mk1 mr2 ever.
