The forum is still online though - it's at www.mx5ocforum.co.uk

Any more questions, fire away. Plenty of MX5 knowledgable types round here.

hi,

my budget was up to around 4 to 6 maby a bit more the idear however was to get somthing a bit more fun than my clio and was not to expence to run or insure as I am 24. I also whanted a 1.8 phase 1 modle

I had also asumed that it was hi milege however souldI buy newer with hi miles or older with lower miles? as thay cost a simaler amount.

the one I have just been to see it a 1.8 i a light metalic blue 90k eletric windows/mirors, brand new soft top with un ziping windoand is sticker priced at £4250. it is well with in my budget, so I can also get a hard top as well. witcI understand will cost somthing like 750 coller matched

what should I bee looking for both good and bad. would the mileg put pepol off/ how long does the engin/gear box last

blake

I will try the web sight but last time I looked it was closed

Blake,
The price seems about right, though the milage does seem high for the year considering the type of car it is.
You can get a 97 MX5 for around 5-6k. Mine is the 1.8iS well worth it for the extra 10bhp (I think)
I went from Clio to MX5 and dont regret it, the clio seems banal compared to my MX. And the insurance was no increase either.
Hope this helps, look around before buying though, I wouldnt have enjoyed the first MX I looked at, I waited for the right one and got a good deal, thanks to mustard.

Price does sound ok though try to knock him down a bit for the mileage. I wouldn't worry at all about the oily bits at 90k+ as they are pretty much bulletproof (I've just bought a '97 1.8 on eBay with 92k on the clock for just £3700), just watch for rust on the sills really.

I don't know of him personally but you could try searching in the members profile and dropping him an email.

Have you seen this one?

Mustard is another PHer who works in motor industry- sort of, he 'knew of' the car I was going to look at which helped when i went to look at it. He also knows a fair bit about MX5's
(I think he secretly wants to be a hairdresser you know )

He works like Di says in the trade and knows about most cars - a really nice bloke who will tell you straight what to look for. He helped me find mine.
Give him a call!

I'm looking at getting an MX5 in the not too distant future and must say the Owners Club forums are great, been trying to read up as much as I can since I joined (GBY on there).

Anyone want to buy a Westfield?

Any techie questions just fire them in my direction, not much I can't help you with. I'm fairly familiar with all the oily bits, suspension questions, go faster mods, querks etc etc....
