Nissan Juke Diesel Issue
Discussion
Dear all, my wife has owned her Juke 1.5 Diesel Tekna spec (from new March 2013) for a 16 months now and has covered over 30k miles. We have both noticed a flat spot around 1850-2000 revs which feels lie a slight stutter or faltering. After 3 visits to Nissan main dealers, plug in diagnostics, search for error codes and the like and a 50 mile drive from a Nissan "master technician", we have been told they cannot replicate this problem. Has anyone else encountered this flat spot, or any advice how to sort this out. Other than this problem, the car has been fantastic but this does somewhat spoil the overall ownership experience. Thanks, Lee
trouble with the Juke it uses a Renault 1.5diesel engine, which is a pretty poor engine in general, injectors give up anything from 50k upwards, diesel pump is incredibly cheaply made and causes lots of fueling problems.EGR/Vacuum parts all poor quality stuff, flat spot is often the lambda sensor{ one before the catalytic converter}worth checking that.
hopefully nissan find the problem and sort the car.

Sounds like a coil or cylinder problem, or a burnt valve
It's a diesel so it doesn't even have a coil, Unlikely to be a cylinder problem or burnt valve as it is a newish car without other symptops, in my opinion most likely a characteristic of the EGR valve. My Mondeo TDCI had a simular hesitation at the exact same RPM which disappeared totally when I bypassed the EGR. renorti said:

Hate to burst your bubble here and go off on one here however ... The 1.5dci k9k isn't a Renault engine, it's a Renault and Nissan combined engine! Fuel pump issues tend to be lean more towards the Delphi system on the lower powered cars and when a customer has used supermarket fuel (mainly sainsburys or morrisons) where the pumps aren't as well cleaned or the fuel isn't as refined as your main fuel suppliers, the fuelling system issue is the filter 'gelling' which is down to the up to 7% biofuel in small writing at just about fuel pump label in Britain!hopefully nissan find the problem and sort the car.
Any injector faults I've had on a k9k seem to be when the injectors been disturbed/removed, never had one fail otherwise. never had a fault with EGR or Vacuum systems on the older k9k engines, the newer ones don't have an egr valve nor have I ever had a fault with a lambda sensor.
Take it elsewhere for a second opinion, to another Nissan dealership not under the same 'company' name/Nissan or Renault specialist, it's not easy to diagnose a car over the internet and you can get a lot of duff information too!

Thanks for the advice. I will source an independent Nissan specialist. Does anyone think its worth a "stiff" letter to Nissan UK customer services dept to provoke a reaction??
A stiff letter can help your cause but it can also label you a PITA to the dealership which means they'd be less likely to give discount or help you out if possible. When was your last service done and did you have the fuel filter changed/cleaned out, as I've said above about 90% of the problems I've ever had with a k9k engine with stuttering or sluggishness has been down to fuel filters gelling!Henry Fiddleton said:
Re-map?
Sounds like it is a poorely mapped car from the factory?
Only issue is warrenty...
Was this a serious suggestion? Every Juke with this engine has been incorrectly mapped? I'm not trying to be an arse here, I'd be genuinely staggered if this happens with any manufacturer.Sounds like it is a poorely mapped car from the factory?

Short production niche product, but the first Focus RS had some map changes through it's production run...I'd imagine it's what is described in the below link, seems to be common and you may have to adapt driving style to suit.

The mrs has a juke 1.5dci tekna and we don't notice this but it most probably is the result of driving style. We don't really care about economy but it never drops below 55mpg anyway.
Could it be a case of needing to be one gear down that you actually use? In the juke I find using the eco meter will show full marks at 57 - 62mph in fifth not sixth. We only use sixth for motorway duties. Same with doing 30mph in third rather than fourth.
Eta: You can get the juke to judder if you load it up so try accelerate up hill in 4th from 25mph that will do it. So I definitely think you or your wife is labouring the engine.
