In the market for a 5-8y old diesel hatchback and looking for advice.

I travel 20k a year mainly on motorways so reliability is crucial.

Like the Honda Civic but been advised not as reliable as previous versions...

Any advice on the Toyota Auris / Avensis?

I had an Avensis. I was also doing about 20,000 miles a year. I thought it was great. A pretty consistent 54 mpg if you do 70 most of the time.

In 2006 there was a face lift and they get indicators in the wing mirrors. The 2.0 diesel got a few more bhp and a 6 speed box as well.

They are huge inside I got 5 of us and all our holiday luggage in one. And the other 4 were women!

100% reliable until 104,000 then it had an injector problem and I sold it. Rusty wheel nuts were a bit of a problem for the garage. Rusted enough that the socket would not fit.

I regret selling it.
