KPGC10 (hakosuka) GTR goes up for auction
Discussion
A some what unicorn car for many (and as rare as one in the West!) is going to auction with 'RM auctions' without a reserve.

It will be interesting to see how western buyers react to it. As although it is recognised in Japan for its major successes in motor sport and pedigree in the S20 motor its been largely ignored by Western buyers/investors/collectors, is this about to change? As a fan of the car I personally hope it doesn't attract too much attention because if I'm ever going to get one I need them to stay off the radar in Europe and America to have any reasonable chance of attaining one !
I don't have an intimate knowledge of these cars so don't know how original this particular car is apart from the obvious S20 motor inside it. But none the less will be watching with great interest!

If I was to make a guesstimation I'd reckon in the region of £95,000-£110,000!
Still doesn't stop me wanting one!

Ha, I'm slightly more optimistic (I say that losely) my guess is 40-50K. Wish me luck. Still doesn't stop me wanting one!

I've done the same for the past week or so! I really want to know more about their history but unfortunately not a lot has been written about them in English. Just ordered the 'Skyline complete book C10' all in Japanese but does apparently have very good pictures and illustrations to learn about the varying differences between the GT-2000's, GT-X and GT-R models. A track focused KPGC10 (like PZR's) and an NSX S.zero for the public road would be perfect for me!

The wikipedia article is fairly good I thought, however like me, you've probably read it so many times now! Like you say... there is limited information out there.A track focused KPGC10 (like PZR's) and an NSX S.zero for the public road would be perfect for me!
But I don't care. I still want one.
For me, I'd use it as a daily drive to work
That sound track is epic. Arnie ripping up lino.

Seeing as this is one of the first Nissan S20-powered cars to come to auction outside Japan, you might like to start a thread about this in the General Gassing section of the forum? It's a bit wasted here in the backwaters of 'Jap Chat'.
A thread in General Gassing could possibly be a kind of litmus test for the auction reaction. I suspect it will elicit the usual balance of 90% negative to faint praise ( "Superannuated Datsun Sunny", "Japanese copy of XXX" etc ) to 5% "never heard of it" and the - probably actually less than - 5% like you and I who actually know what it is, what it represents, what they tend to change hands for, and actually approve in some way or other.
Go on, I dare you...
I'll post it in the GG section no problem!
I agree that it is a crying shame that a car with such an illustrious history and pedigree is largely snubbed or even worse unbeknown by the majority of the petrolheads or gearheads across Europe and America. I only discovered the existence of this car through an article on Pistonheads (I believe it was Eric's GT-X?) and have always gone back to the C10, each time with growing interest.
As I've said above I've ordered the 'Complete guide to the C10 Skyline' but would be interested to hear your input on what other essential books or magazines would be useful to ascertain more information about these cars?
Plus have you finished your 432 replica yet and will the KPGC10 GT-R be at the Festival of Speed this year (or both of them!)!

The 'Complete Guide' book is probably the best for covering the whole of the C10 series and making the model/trim and update differences a bit easier to understand and digest. If you are more specifically into the GT-R models then there are many other titles to consider and - if you're like me - that means you pretty much have to have them all. Some of the vintage titles are really, really nice. But my no.1 tip is a copy of the factory parts list. Really! rb26 said:

Been too busy (old house refurb) to finish the 432-R replica. Maybe later this year. No invite to display the KPGC10 at Goodwood, and no plans for any other events. Need a mojo boost... Do you know which sites are the best for acquiring these vintage titles and factory parts list? I'm guessing this information doesn't come cheaply!?

That's understandable, I'm sorry to hear you won't be at Goodwood this year. If you are attending any motoring events in the near future please let me know! I've never seen a KPGC10 GT-R in the flesh and would very much like too! Good luck with the house refurbishment !
