So, having just sold my race car as I do not have the time to go racing anymore I have already started getting the itch to get back on the track. There is a track evening at Knockhill next month that I'd like to go to.

However, with all the road cars I've used on track before I have always found that the brakes fade far too soon to make it enjoyable, then I've changed to a better pad (no need for serious disc upgrades etc for occasion track use IMO) and found them to be worlds better.

So my question is to those who have used a GT86 on track. Just how well do the standard ones fare, and if you have changed the pads, what have you changed them to and how do they compare.

Thanks in advance.

Standard brakes are ok on the track, the car is relatively light they held up ok in the most part, that said I wanted a little more feel and bite, I upgraded to StopTech pads and disc's (front and rear) these have noticeable more bite and don't recall fade on the last trackday. They do need a little heat in them so on a cold morning they don't have the same power!!! once they do have heat they have a good solid feel and are damn effective in stopping the car (which is good as that is what they are supposed to do) smile Also very effective in the wet worked well yesterday when out and about.

I don't track mine so may be of little/no interest - but while the brakes work well, I've found they tend to squeal a fair bit. On the 20,000 service front pads and disks were close and rear pads need changing. I commented that I was actually pleased because it would mean with new disks and pads I'd lose the squeal. The service desk said not to get my hopes up as it's a common complaint with standard fitments. Designed and specced for hard, track use and most of us potter about rarely putting them under any real stress so they squeal. It's been suggested I look into EBC green stuff for both front and rear in the hope they may reduce/eliminate the squeal.

Yes I have had quite a bit of squeeling too, but on "spirited" driving after about 20min found that they just didnt have the stopping power I thought they did. Considering that was on the road with more distance between braking points I have bought some new pads from Fensport - who I must say do a great service as I ordered them at about 1pm today and they should be with me tomorrow. Mighty impressed I must say (should they arrive on time).
