Finally picked up my MR2 Turbo!
Discussion
I finally picked her up this morning. What can I say? She is a major disapointment
Who am I kidding? I LOVE IT!!!!
It all swung into action yesterday when I noted my loan money had come through. So, called in a few favours at work to get 4 new tyres (2x 235/40/17 Eagle F1 GSD3s and 2 x 215/40/17 of the same variety - £321 all in.) Collected them 20 mins later - jobs a good un.
Down to the bank at 9 this morning - withdrew the cash, sorted the insurance, then got him out of bed (1130!) and the deal was done.
I ended up paying just 2850! And he is changing the front brake pads for me on monday
So the car!
I took it easy, and kept it off boost until it was warmed up throughly....then started to give it a little bit in a straight line...... WOW! It flies! My dad could hardly keep up in his 1.6 Focus Its soeasy to drive as well, but then when it gets to 2500.....bang, it hooks up and goes!
First job was to go fill her up with Shells finest. I thought I might get a few admiring glances. Until I arrived at the petrol station and parked next to a bright red countach! Now that really was a monster! Had a chat with the owner, who seemed like a really quality bloke...wasnt up for a race though
Suitably upstaged, I took it round to show my best mate (drives a CTR). Took him out for a blat, and he was very impressed, said it was a lot quicker than his.
Arrived at a set of lights on a dual carriageway next to a Boxster S....hmmmm....this could be interesting
There was no revving of engines or anything like that, and he was on the phone, so i wasnt expecting him to be up for it. But then the lights changed, and got my completely off guard, he jumped the lights and gave it the johnny large potatoes (tm). Slightly too late I bodged the start and the car bogged down. Bugger. When it got in its stride though, it reeled him in good style. Im very impressed (with the car, not my driving
On a few B roads, the car grips well and remains composed. On fast sweeping bends though - it gets a little twitchy. I must be careful of that!
I love the way it sounds! The exhaust has a lovely note at high revs, and the engine sounds so organic! Its like having a tiger sat behind you
The general census is that the wheels aren't too great though
Im so glad ive got it!

Looks like you have 17s there!
I would say go for some smaller wheels as IMO 17s are a little on the large side for an MR2. Aesthetically they look great but handling-wise they can sometimes make the car a little tricky to place.
I agree about long, fast corners - MR2s don't always feel as planted as you'd like, and you really don't want to end up pushing too far in these cars!!!
Great fun though.

Thank f*** for that!
As Dan says, 17's are alittle big, but as they came with the car for free, they can't hurt to stay.
Glad you are enjoying it!
Its awesome mate!
I wont be changing the wheels, i like the look of 17s and the style is growing on me.
Quite a few stone chips here and there though - is a respray the only way of fixing these?
