The joys of GT4 ownership.
Discussion
Well, as I am now have a turbo car, I thought I would change my nickname to something more suitable (previously ed_aw11).
Anyway, after a few days of GT4 ownership, I have discovered a few problems, and wondered if anyone had any ideas as to a solution.
1) The 'leccy ariel wont go down. Not life threatening I admit, but annoying. I'm just waiting for some chav b*st*rd to bend it for the sake of it. Is it a new motor required, or are the some simple checks I can do?
2) The fuel gauge doesn't work. Slightly more serious this one, and even more annoying. It only goes down 1/4 of a tank after 200 miles. Either the something's knackered, or I've got a 50 gallon tank. Any ideas what it could be?
3) This car is thirsty!! I had done 87 miles after filling her up, and it cost me another £20 to fill her back up again!! That works out at 16mpg!!! No real solution other than not to drive in my lead boots, but I thought I would mention it.
Other than those rather insignificant points, I must say I am enjoying the GT4, so much so, that I leave early for work, and still get there late!

Leccy ariel is a very common fault on 5th gens. A generic one fits, and it's not too hard to sort out.
Fuel guage? Dodgy sender I guess. Could be a pain.
200 miles on a tank? Sounds about right. It's a big heavy car running 12psi of boost.
I did 195 miles and put 38 quid in yesterday.

Oh yes. definatley enjoying the ability to standout from the mundane rush hour traffic every morning. And waiting for Mr BMW 3 Series to get up my ar*e, the drop down a couple of cogs and leave him in a waft of optimax fumes! Brilliant.
As for the ariel, I am going to disconnect the power, and lower it by hand, and see if that makes a difference to the reception. Although I never listen to the radio anyway.
And as the fuel gauge, I am going to wait until my haynes / chiltons manuals arrive before I try to fix it. But in the mean time, I am quite happy humiliating 3 series'!

Sorry, I jst realised I haven't really gone into much detail on the fuel gauge.
It reads full, when full. But even after 200 miles, it will be on 3/4 full. During those 200 miles, it will fluctuate between half and 3/4 full, but every time I stop and turn it off, by the time I turn it on again, its gone back to 3/4.
There doesn't seem to be any real pattern to it, other than; Full is full, stopped is 3/4.
Any one got any ideas?
Cheers Guys 'n' Gals.

I like doing that as well.
Although, beware dark coloured 5 series. I tried it with one of them, and had it howl past me. I just spotted the quad exhausts and M5 badge as it vanished into the distance.
Want one.

Forgive ignorance plz,but what are the differences/advantages of a CS over standard?Thanx
About a second a mile.
The Carlos Seinz (also known as the RC in Japan) has a shorted (slightly) box, different ECU, Water/Air intercooling, more boost (13psi plays about 10) and a different bonnet.
It's basically a halfway house between the 5th and 6th generation GT-Fours. The extra speed is due to extra boost.

Plus different (lighter apparently) bumpers, wider arches and a different bonnet scoop/vent, which was the design for the later ST205 GT4.

You've got to remember that the Carlos Sainz version was a rally homologation special.
So if Carlos Sainz needed a cambelt cooler and funny ducts and stuff on his rally car then the road car had to have it too, whether it needed it or not.
Yup.
The cambelt is actually enclosed in a little case thing (one assumes to stop it getting clobbered by stones for the WRC cars).
The homogation ST205s have (inactive) anti-lag and water spray as well. And a very silly rear wing (half the GT4OC will flame me now)
